Front PorchA visit to La Placita Fine Crafts in Historic Lincoln, New Mexico gives you a chance to step back in time - to an era of beautiful hand spun wools - as you visit a town frozen in the time of Billy the Kid.

Wools dyed with the same natural dyes used by early settlers and the native Indian tribes. Rich dark bronze-browns dyed with the fresh green leaves of the black walnut trees, soft yellows dyed with rabbitbrush, deep yellow-orange made with the wood shavings from the Osage orange, greens from avocado skins or marigold stems and leaves. The range of colors reflects the beautiful hues of the New Mexican landscape. The wools range from soft Ramboulett to the harsh Churro - from pure black to almost pure white and a multitude of colors in between. They can be purchased by color and by texture. The majority of the spun wools have been spun "in the grease" by Ralph, hand washed, dyed and put into balls. The "colored" wools have been spun, washed and then put into balls for your convenience.

Weaving RoomAlso available are some natural colored (just as the animal grew them) Llama and Alpaca. We also have some dog hair for those would would like the challange of "something different". The dog hair is from brushing or clipping.

We also offer spinning wheels, looms, and miscellenous equipment for the spinner or weaver. Some commercial wools are available.

In "Rosalie's Room" we hold spinning and weaving get togethers. You are welcome to drop in and try spinning or weaving or just visit with some of the "Lincoln Spinning Bees". The get-togethers are held on the second Saturday of each month. You may also drop in and we will be glad to help you when we aren't waiting on customers. We have a variety of spinning wheels and looms you may try.

In addition to our spinning and weaving items, we also carry a variety of gift items. Wooden nickels, Billy the Kid T-shirts and caps, magnets, jewelry, commercially woven rugs and wall hangings, coasters, placemats, and many more unique items.

In the winter you are welcome to sit by our wood stove, get warm and spin yarns or in the summer we have a delightfully cool porch with lots of seating. You are always welcome to come and spend some time with us and enjoy "stepping back in time".
